31 DAYS OF ART: THE ART OF THE FIRST TIME...A MINI ESSAY ON ART, LOVE AND TRAVEL

THE ART OF THE FIRST TIME...A MINI ESSAY ON ART, LOVE AND TRAVEL.

Words can't describe.  But I will try.  In a word or two...it was hot. Smoking hot.  It felt good being in his presence.  Like an overdue hug with just the right amount of squeeze.

Constant thoughts.
Vivid dreams.
Adventurous fantasies.

I would finally be able to feel the warmth of his embrace.  My head and heart had no space for any other but him.

Each step down the plane's gateway brought us closer and closer.  The last step right before being greeted was the most intense.  I hesitated for just a moment, took a deep breath and exhaled.  Even with all of the people exiting the plane, that moment felt so private.

He reached down, kissed my forehead and pulled my face towards his with that inviting glow.  We were finally face to face.  As we stood in silence gazing upon one another, I felt him say, "Stand still while I behold you beholding me."

He was the sun and my confirmation that I had finally made it to Ghana, West Africa.
"Inna Di Sun," by Jolyn Gardner Campbell, Acrylic, 16x20, 2014.  The title is Jamaican Patois and means in the sun.  The first of my Ghana series that is accompanied by a short essay.  You can see this piece in person at Festival Sundiata in Seattle, WA on June 13th to June 15th.  All sales inquiries will be directed to Hiawatha D., Curator for Festival Sundiata.
